On Monday 14th March, the Education Policy Institute and the OECD will host the launch of the OECD Talis report: ‘Mending the Education Divide: Getting Strong Teachers to the Schools that Need Them Most’. This event is supported by Capita.
Teachers can shape their students’ educational careers. Research shows that children taught by different teachers often experience very different educational outcomes. This begs the questions: how are teachers assigned to schools in different countries? And to what extent do students from different backgrounds have access to good teachers? The latest OECD Talis report, which will officially launch at this event, assesses the allocation of high-quality teachers and how much access students with different socio-economic backgrounds have to good teachers.
This event will feature a presentation from Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, OECD, on the report findings. There will then be an expert panel, convened to discuss the key reasons behind unequal distribution of high-quality teachers and how we can better attract and support good teachers to work in challenging schools.
