Conservative party conference: Are the attainment targets in the Schools White Paper deliverable?

3rd October 2022 03/10/2022 12:30-14:00
At this year’s Conservative Party Conference, the Education Policy Institute has partnered with ASCL to host an open fringe panel discussion: ‘Are the attainment targets in the Schools White Paper deliverable?’.
The Schools White Paper, published in March 2022, provided a highly-anticipated opportunity for the current government to set out its education policy, presenting it within the context of its levelling up agenda. The White Paper laid out plans to improve education standards and ensure every child can fulfil their potential. Yet, there has been much discussion surrounding some of the White Paper’s more controversial proposals including the minimum school week, the transition for all schools into a MAT by 2030 and the parent pledge. Discussion has also touched on how these proposals will help children and young people achieve the ambitious KS2 and GCSE targets proposed, especially without the provision of additional funding.
This event will bring together policy makers, school leaders and education unions to consider the evidence on the measures in the Schools White Paper and how they help schools to reach the proposed attainment targets. The panel will also discuss whether further support is needed for children, teachers and the wider school system to achieve these targets and what measures could be implemented, beyond the Schools White Paper, to help unlock opportunities for all.
We are delighted to confirm a fantastic panel of Evelyn Forde, ASCL; Jonathan Gullis MP, Minister for School Standards; John Jolly, Parentkind and Dame Rachel de Souza, Children’s Commissioner for England.
** Note: This event will take place in the conference secure zone. To access the secure zone you will need to obtain a pass directly from the Conservative Party.**
