The Department for Education has announced £10 million for education recovery programmes to support areas in England that have seen the greatest level of pupil learning loss.
.
Responding to the announcement of additional funding, Jon Andrews, Head of Analysis at the Education Policy Institute (EPI), said:
.
“It’s clear from our research that some pupils have seen far greater learning losses than others, particularly those in areas of the North and Midlands and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
.
“It’s therefore encouraging to see the Department for Education allocate additional funding for education recovery in the North, East Midlands and Humber, and the West Midlands. The involvement of the Education Endowment Foundation in supporting these programmes is especially welcome.
.
“But we also know that nationally, the level of recovery funding committed by the government still falls well short of what is required to address the scale of pandemic learning loss. The government must review its existing recovery funding package, particularly if we see another wave of disruption to pupils’ education in the new year.”
