Dr Joana Cardim Dias

Before joining EPI in October 2021, Joana was involved in several research projects focusing on how quality education can reach vulnerable people. Her research has included evaluating the impact of a technology aided learning programme in schools, examining the effects of free childcare on girls’ behavioural outcomes, analysing the trends and geography of education mobility in Europe and exploring the link between community driven development and learning outcomes.

Joana participates in the NOVAFRICA knowledge centre and has designed and managed field experiments in Portugal, Mozambique and Angola. 

Joana completed her PhD at NOVA School of Business and Economics in Lisbon and was a visiting research student at University College London, having collaborated in projects at the London School of Economics and with the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
