Anne West is Professor of Education Policy in the Department of Social Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She holds a BSc degree (First Class Honours) in Psychology from University College London, a PGCE from Goldsmiths College London, and a PhD in Psychology from the Institute of Education, University of London. She worked in the Research and Statistics Branch of the former Inner London Education Authority before joining the LSE in 1990 as a part-time research officer. She was appointed Professor in 2002.
Anne’s research focuses on education policy and reforms in England and in comparative perspective. She has carried out research funded by a range of different organisations including the Nuffield Foundation, the Leverhulme Trust, the European Commission, the UK Department for Education and the French Ministry of Education. She was a member of the former Conseil national d’évaluation du système scolaire (Cnesco) established in 2014 by the French Ministry of Education; she held the Fritz-Karsen-Chair at Humboldt University in Berlin in 2015; and she is currently a member of the Conseil Scientifique of the Revue internationale d’éducation de Sèvres, (published by France Éducation international under the auspices of the French Ministry of Education).
Anne currently holds a Leverhulme Trust Major Research Fellowship to carry out a project on “School admissions and school choice in comparative perspective”.
