Education Policy Institute gives evidence to Select Committee inquiry on school funding reform

The Education Policy Institute’s Executive Director Natalie Perera appeared before the House of Commons Education Select Committee this morning, as part of an inquiry into new proposals for school funding

parliament6The evidence session on the government’s planned national funding formula, which is set to be introduced in 2018, also included appearances from Luke Sibieta of the Institute for Fiscal Studies, Tom Goldman of the Department for Education, and Minister for School Standards Nick Gibb MP.

With some schools expecting losses, while others expect to gain from the new formula, the inquiry focused on the extent to which the proposed reforms could be regarded as ‘fair’, the government’s approach to introducing the formula, and the consultation itself – as well as the wider issue of the financial sustainability of schools.
