At this year’s Conservative Party Conference, the Education Policy Institute has partnered with AQA to hold a public panel on: ‘Building a digitally skilled generation: what do we need for the future workforce?’
Digital capability is essential for success in education, work and everyday life, yet evidence shows that access to digital skills and confidence remains uneven across England. Employers continue to report significant shortages in basic and advanced digital skills – with EPI research highlighting that the growing demand for digital skills in the job market is not being met. These challenges sit alongside wider debates about what the education system needs to ensure young people are prepared for a rapidly changing labour market.
Research from AQA and others highlights that heavy use of technology does not necessarily translate into digital competence. At the same time, there is increasing interest in how evidence‑led EdTech and digital assessment could support reliability and efficiency, provided implementation is carefully managed.
Come along to this panel to hear from policymakers, school leaders and sector experts as they consider what is needed from curriculum, assessment and wider education policy to build a digitally skilled generation. Panellists will explore the opportunities and trade‑offs of digital transformation, and what more is required to ensure every young person can thrive in a modern, technology‑driven economy.
