Viola joined the Education Policy Institute in March 2019. She was previously employed as a researcher at the Universities and Colleges Employer Association, where she led research on inequality, gender and ethnicity pay gaps in the higher education sector. Viola has considerable experience as a research economist with a focus on education and labour markets. She has also worked as a project consultant for the World Bank, as a research assistant at the Bank of Italy and as a teaching assistant at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Viola holds a first class undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Florence, a MSc in Economics (Distinction) from University of Bologna and a MRes in Economics (Distinction) from the LSE.
