At this year’s Labour Party Conference the Education Policy Institute has partnered with the National Foundation for Educational Research to co-host a virtual panel discussion on teacher recruitment and retention.
With COVID-19 causing widespread disruption across the education system, teachers are now more important than ever to pupil outcomes. In recent years, the English education system has seen a rise in the number of teachers leaving the profession and has struggled to recruit new trainees. However, recent figures show a promising surge of trainees into the profession.
Join us to discuss the impact of this new trend and whether it is enough to counteract current recruitment and retention challenges as 400,000 additional pupils are expected to enter the secondary school system in the next five years.
The event will take place on the Labour Party’s online platform on Monday 21st September 2020 from 16:00 – 17:00.
Speakers include: Nick Brook (NAHT); Emma Hollis (NASBTT); Rt Hon. David Laws (EPI); and Jack Worth (NFER). Also invited to speak is Kim Johnson MP (Education Select Committee). The panel will be chaired by Prof. Samantha Twiselton (Sheffield Institute of Education)
** Note: This event will take place in the conference secure zone. To access the secure zone you will need to obtain a pass directly from the Labour Party.**
